Director Irfan Javed’s Customs I&I impounds smuggled goods worth Rs20.6m

KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation (I&I) seized smuggled goods loaded on two passenger buses worth Rs20.6 million.

According to the details Director Irfan Javed received credible information that huge quantity of non-duty paid goods will be smuggled from Karachi to Quetta.

He immediately constituted under the supervision of Additional Director Ali Zaman Gardezi which also includes Deputy Collector Saad Rabbani, Superintendent Sikandar Khanzada and others to foil such attempts of transportation of the smuggled and non-duty paid goods.

Accordingly, the team along with staff of Manghopir Police Station enhanced patrolling near Mygari Northern Bypass, Karachi. The team spotted and intercepted two suspected Hino passenger buses loaded with smuggled goods near Mygari Northern Bypass, Karachi.

Upon cursory checking, the passenger buses were found loaded and packed with huge quantity of foreign origin goods. There were no passengers on the buses. The drivers were asked to produce legal import documents in support of lawful import, possession transportation of goods. In response thereof, they failed to produce any documents on the spot.

Since, detailed examination was not possible on the spot therefore, the same were escorted to the office of the Directorate of l&I-Customs, Karachi for examination, recovery and weighment. The goods along with the goods have been seized and investigations are underway.
