Sources told that a consignment which was imported by M/s. B.M.W. Electronics was detained, for which the GD had been filed by clearing agent Waseem Tanoli. The consignment was monitored online and was blocked after being assigned to gate staff at SAPT, East Wharf, Karachi.

The consignment was examined and resulted in recovery of goods not declared in the GD. WeBOC data was also scrutinized which revealed that assessing officers assessed the GD by changing the findings of Collectorate’s examination report which resulted in the loss of revenue particularly on assessing LED Strips as motor cycle decoration lights.

The actual value of the goods was found to be Rs8.971 million as against the assessed value of Rs7.694 million.

The goods have been seized. It is established beyond any shadow of doubt that M/s. B.M.W. Electronics in connivance with the other associates-in-crime has attempted to evade duty and taxes amounting to Rs1.93 million by way of mis-declaring the description and quantity of actual goods.

FIR is lodged and efforts are underway to arrest the accused.
