Directorate of I&I Anti-Smuggling seizes Rs0.5 m foreign origin cloth

ISLAMABAD:  Anti-Smuggling Staff of Directorate of I&I-FBR Regional Office Rawalpindi has recovered the 7542 yards (1136) kg ladies foreign origin cloth. According to details in pursuance of information the Anti-Smuggling Staff of Directorate of I&I intercepted a Bus bearing Registration No, P-5224 (Peshawar) coming from Peshawar side Burhan G.T. Road.  Apparently the said bus was loaded with foreign origin goods. Thorough search of the bus was conducted in the presence of witnesses and owner of the goods which led to the recovery foreign origin goods. At the time of occurrence three persons claimed the ownership of mentioned recovered foreign origin cloth but on demand they failed to produce any evidence regarding legal import or lawful possession of recovered foreign origin cloth.

The said recovered Foreign Origin smuggled goods along with bus no. P-5224 was seized under Section 168 and 157 of the Customs Act, 1969 after serving notice u/s. 171 ibid. The approximate CIF value of above said F/O smuggled cloth comes to Rs500, 000 submitted an affidavit wherein they claimed ownership of above mentioned F/O new tyrs (different brand and sizes)  and  admitted that  the same are Foreign origin and smuggled one and they have no proof of legal import or lawful possession. However they are ready to pay the duty taxes livable thereon.
