Directorate of I&I-FBR seizes 03 ton Coal Tar

ISLAMABAD: Anti-Smuggling Staff of Directorate of I&I-FBR Regional Office Rawalpindi seized 03 tone Iranian origin Coal Tar and arrested the driver. According to details in pursuance of information the Anti-Smuggling Staff of Directorate of I&I-FBR Regional Office Rawalpindi intercepted a mini Truck bearing Registration No. LXT-7683 near Rawat G.T. Road being driven by Muhammad Mushtaq S/o Riaz Butt R/o Gulstan Colony Lahore Cantt. The vehicle was loaded with foreign origin Coal Tar. Thorough search of the vehicle was conducted in the presence of witnesses / driver of the vehicle which led to the recovery of 03 tone Iranian origin Coal Tar Pitch.

On demand driver of above mentioned Mazda mini truck failed to produce any relevant import documents in respect of the recovered foreign origin Coal Tar. However, he promised and requests that he may be given some time to enable him to contact the concerned owners of the recovered foreign origin goods for production of documents regarding payment of duty/taxes etc. His request was acceded to and the above mentioned recovered Iranian Made Coal Tar is hereby detained under Section 17 of the Customs Act, 1969 for further verification of its legal import and payment of duty/taxes etc. Notice under section 26 of the Customs Act, 1969 was served upon the driver of the said mini truck for production of import documents in respect of above mentioned recovered foreign origin Coal Tar. Two persons namely Muhammad Saifullah S/o Muhammad Bashir (CNIC No.35202-2923602-7 Haris Bashir S/o Muhammad Bashir (CNIC NO. 35202-3375796-5) and submitted an affidavit wherein they claimed ownership of above mentioned Coal Tar. They also ready to pay the duty taxes livable thereon. Therefore, the said recovered Iranian Origin Coal Tar Pitch (in Roll) was seized under Section 168 and 157 of the Customs Act, 1969 after serving notice u/s. 171 ibid. The CIF value of above said F/O smuggled non-duty paid goods comes to Rs. 200,000 excluding value of seized vehicle which is estimated as Rs.800, 000. Further proceedings are in progress.
