District administrations failed to utilise over Rs 3.2b development fund

LAHORE: The district administrations in the province have not yet utilised Rs 3.234 billion, allocated for community development programmes under the Pakistan Millennium Development Goals (Pak MDGs).

About 4,141 development schemes in 148 National Assembly constituencies were identified by the federal government and Rs 10.3 billion were allocated to complete these schemes.

According to the letter written by the Punjab local government director general to the district coordination officers (DCOs) on the instructions of the federal government, only 59 percent work was done by utilising mere 53 percent of the total released funds.

The letter said that all the districts governments still have 30 percent funds lying with them, which makes a total of around Rs 3,234 million of unutilised funds for the year 2015-16.
