TEHRAN: Doha Port customs arrested an Iranian who tried to smuggle medical equipment belonging to the Ministry of Health worth millions of dinars by boat to Iran.
The officers led by supervisor Khalid Al-Failakawi suspected the cargo after completing documentation to export some goods. They went ahead to check the goods and discover equipment for sonar and x-ray plus kidney dialysis machines and specula, in addition to surgical materials which were not permitted to be taken out of the country. The suspect claimed the equipment belongs to a company and he bought them from an Egyptian. Necessary arrests have been made and investigation is ongoing to determine whether or not it was stolen.
The Farwaniya police have arrested a bedoun youth for robbing expatriates, groceries and breaking into parked cars and stealing valuables, reports Al-Rai daily. A security source said the arrest came after police received complaints from several people and investigations conducted by securitymen revealed the thief who has a criminal past was using stolen car plate numbers to evade arrest. Acting on a tip-off police set a trap for him and caught him red-handed in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh. During interrogation he has admitted to robbing 14 people. He also said he bought the car, which had been reported stolen, from another man who is in police custody on theft charges. The suspect has been handed over to the General Department for Criminal Investigation.
