KABUL: The Afghan Finance Minister Eklil Hakimi said the donor countries supported the Afghan government’s plans for delivering its promises made to the international community at the third Senior Official Meeting (SOM) in Kabul.
Hakimi told reporters at a press conference on Friday that the Kabul administration has had good achievements in delivering on its commitments made to the donor countries at the Brussels Summit.
However, he said the international community has failed to fulfill a number of its commitments.
“The appointment of all advisor at ministries should be based on the need, based on an assessment and to fulfill this, the office of deputy minister of finance for policy had the responsibility to do this, but it was not done,” said Hakimi.
At the same event, Tadamichi Yamamoto, head of the United Nations Agency Mission for Afghanistan, said the third Senior Officials Meeting was a good platform for more cooperation between the Afghan government and the international community.
“Without minimizing or making the problems lessen, what I mean, critically recognizing the problems which exist in this country, what the challenges are now which are very complex,” said Yamamoto.
Meanwhile, deputy head of the Asian Development Bank Wencai Zhang said the third Senior Official Meeting was crucial for continued international community’s support to Afghanistan.
“I can see the commitment from both the government side and also the donor side. So I think this is good for both sides to continue, to work together and to try to achieve all the important reform tasks, development tasks,” Zhang told TOLOnews.
Hakimi said he had asked the international community to support the Afghan government in bringing reforms to the customs offices.
