NEW YORK: The 5.2.2.478 version for Android, which has a file size of 32.6MB, was released a few days ago and brought only bug fixes. To install Viber on an Android phone, it must run on the 2.3+ Gingerbread version and above.

Viber was released four years ago to compete with Skype and released a version for iOS, then for Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phone devices, and later, Nokia’s Series 40 and Symbian, as well as Samsung’s Bada were added to the list of supported platforms. In February 2014, the company was bought by Rakuten and the new owner continued releasing updates for Android and iOS, and the latest version for Android is 5.2.2.478 and the APK file can be downloaded from the official website of Viber.

Viber is a free messaging application that requires an internet connection, whether is 3G or WiFi, and with it, the users can send free messages containing text, photos, audio or video files, they can share their location with other Viber users and make voice calls to a mobile number or landline number, with the Viber Out service, at low rates. Everyone can afford to make domestic and international calls because the prices start from 1.2 c/min. Voice calls from Viber to Viber is free, so you can talk as much as you like with your friends, as long as you have a data plan or you’re connected to a WiFi network.

The good thing is that the application can be used on computers as well, supporting Windows, Mac OS and Linux. However, Viber must be installed first on a smartphone, so when installing it, you will be required to enter your phone number to receive an access code via a SMS text. Once you enter it, your account will be verified and you will start chatting with your friends who have a Viber account. They will be added automatically to your list of contacts, after Viber scans your phonebook and detects numbers registered to this application.

Viber allows you to create group messages and invite up to 100 people, you can follow Public Chats, use stickers which can be downloaded from the Sticker Market, and receive messages even if you log off from Viber.
