LONDON: Fans can download the WhatsApp 2.12.93 APK from the official website and enjoy making voice calls at a better quality. In addition, WhatsApp is preparing to bring back the removed backup with Google Drive option.
The new 2.12.93 APK has a size of 20.3MB, while the previous version is 21.65MB. We don’t have a change log for this update and we don’t know yet what files have been removed, but the previous version came with 350 modified files and there were added 14 files, with 4 new icons. Also, there was noticed a file named activity_settings_google_drive.xml which is related to the backup with Google Drive option, and there were added two white buttons – one that is normally white and another one that becomes darker when it’s pressed. “drive_tile.png” was another new added icon, but we can’t tell right now if these files were passed on the new version.
The 2.12.93 APK has improvements and bug fixes, but we’re pretty sure that in the following days, new beta versions will arrive, with other changes to the voice calling interface. If you recall, the green background containing the name of the person who is calling has been removed and the vibrant red background for “End Call” was replaced with a pinkish shade. Also, the Search bar is now semi-transparent and the first characters of the messages are now truncated, so you can now see better when was your contact “Last seen” on WhatsApp.
To install this APK on your Android device, you must enable the Unknown Sources, which is disabled, by default, to prevent the users from downloading and installing all kinds of applications from other websites than Google Play.
WhatsApp supports now voice calls, but you may still encounter issues with the quality of the calls, which are lagging or ending out of the sudden, despite of the good internet connection. There is also a web feature which allows you to log into account from your computer, using a browser like Firefox, Opera or Chrome. You will go to web.whatsapp.com and you’ll scan the QR code from that page, using your smartphone’s camera.
