HYDERABAD: On the directions of Collector Sadiqullah Khan to keep surveillance on the movements of narcotics, Collectorate of Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization put the concerned ASO units on high alert to thwart any attempt of smuggling.
Acting accordingly, on 29.9.2021, Assistant Collector Sukkur along with his team started vigilance and checking the traffic coming from Quetta side at Shaheed Abdul Ghaffar Shaikh Customs Check post Jacobabad.
At about 4.30 a.m. a Hino truck bearing registration no: TKX-577 loaded with plastic scrap (kachra) was found coming from Quetta side which was signaled to stop but the driver accelerated the speed and tried to drove away the vehicle.
The customs staff chased the truck and on vehicle bearing registration no: GP-369 and near Mehar Shah shrine on Quetta Shikarpur Road found the vehicle parked on road side while driver succeeded to escape taking advantage of darkness.
Customs team took possession of the vehicle and brought it to customs check-post Jacoabad. After through search recovered huge quantity of high grade narcotics (charas) weighing 650 kilograms, in concealments.
The recovered contraband narcotic was concealed in specially designed cavities in the truck and was being transported from Quetta towards upcountry.
Value of recovered narcotics is more than Rs65 million which has been seized at Customs check post Jacoabad along with vehicle used in transportation of narcotics.
Earlier, on 15.9.2021, on the directions of Collector Dr. Sadiqullah Khan, the Anti-Smuggling Organizations (ASO) staff deputed at Shaheed Abdul Ghaffar Shaikh Customs Check Post Jacobabad, intercepted a suspected Hino truck which was loaded with fresh Apples and recovered 210 wooden crates of betel nuts weighing five tones approximately valuing Rs10 million.
The recovered betel nut filled crates were concealed underneath 500 crates of fresh apples and were being transported from Quetta towards Punjab under the garb of fresh fruits.
Separate FIRs are registered against accused persons and further investigation is still underway.
