ISLAMABAD: Federal Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir has acknowledged that the draft of new trade policy has been finalised, which will be presented next week before the ministerial committee on economic issues, headed by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, for review.
The minister, while talking to media, said that after getting node from the committee, the draft will be presented to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for final approval. The new policy focuses mainly on increasing annual exports to $40 billion in the next three years and also identifies the bottlenecks with recommendations for their removal, he added.
Dastgir said that the country is facing challenges of complicated tax system, energy shortage, undue delay in release of tax refunds to exporters and the fragile security situation because of the threat of terrorism and extremism. He admitted that Pakistani export is decreasing due to taxes on commodities.
