AHMEDABAD: A consignment marked as ‘bamboo sticks for making agarbatti (incense sticks)’ at Mundra port had turned out to be lifestyle products smuggled in by a racket. It was busted by directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI), Ahmedabad.
DRI arrested two persons – one from Gandhidham and another from Mumbai – for smuggling the goods worth Rs 20 crore. The duo has been remanded to judicial custody for further probe.
“The Gandhidham-based importers in connivance with accomplices in China were into large-scale smuggling of products including laptop adapters, wireless headphones, track pants, oil filters, wrist watches, belts, handbags, and assorted cosmetics,” said a DRI official.
