BENGALURU: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Bengaluru wing, arrested a 58-year-old Malaysian at Kempegowda International Airport on the charge of attempting to smuggle 2.5 kilogram of ketamine to Malaysia. The drug seized is worth approximately Rs4 million in the international market.
According to sources, the arrested man, Gopalram (58), is a cook who works in a restaurant. He was supposed to travel to Kuala Lumpur via Sri Lanka on flight UL-172.
He placed his check-in suitcase in the scanning machine. Officials did not find anything suspicious inside. However, his behavior made customs officials suspicious.
While checking his suitcase, they found ketamine in two sachets, which were concealed inside. He was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
DRI officials learnt that Gopalram had landed in Bengaluru on March 12 and had left for Chennai immediately.
Officials are gathering more information about him.
