BANGALORE: A drug smuggler from Uganda has been arrested by the CCB sleuths. The cops seized 117 grams of cocaine worth Rs 6 lakh and two mobile phones from the peddler. The accused came to the country on medical visa and is overstaying, the police informed.
The CCB sleuths have identified the accused as Vincent Ekwenze, 25, a native of Ruganda in Uganda. Ekwenze was arrested while he was trying to sell drugs on the Indiranagar 100 Feet Road.
According to the police, the accused claimed to have come to India for treatment. Initially he was in Mumbai. From there he came to Bengaluru and was staying in T C Palya.
“Ekwenze was working in a hotel in T C Palya and in order to make more money, he was selling drugs after purchasing it from his friend in Mumbai,” an investigating officer from CCB said.
At the time of the arrest, the accused claimed that he had lost his passport. The police said that this claim was made to conceal an illegal overstay in the country. The Indiranagar police have registered a case and are investigating.
