Drug-testing laboratory in Punjab soon

LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has announced to establish a drug-testing laboratory of international standard in the province on the pattern of Punjab Forensic Science Laboratory.

He said this, while presiding over a meeting to review a progress of crackdown on spurious and substandard medicines.

The chief minister said satellite drug testing labs would be established in all divisional headquarters of the province. He said the project of modern drug testing lab was of great importance for eliminating substandard and fake medicines in the province, therefore, all matters relating to this project should be disposed of at the earliest. Shahbaz said analysis of samples of medicines should be arranged from the foreign renowned labs till completion of the project of drug testing lab and a foolproof mechanism should be evolved in this regard.

He directed that indiscriminate action should be continued against manufacturers and sellers of spurious and substandard medicines, adding the elements involved in this evil trade deserve no leniency.
