WARSAW: DTEK Energy has signed a contract to import another 100,000 tonnes of gas coal from Poland. According to the press service of the energy company, coal will be delivered by the end of February 2017 to ensure the stable operation of thermal power plants (TPP) of the company in winter. DTEK also continues to buy all free volume of coal from state mines.

The press service noted the average temperature in December was 3.3°C below zero, which is one of the lowest indicators in the past few years. Such temperatures led to the growth of electricity consumption in the country on Dec. 1-27 by 8 percent, while coal burning at TPPs grew by 35 percent compared to the same period last year. “We continue to work intensively to provide our TPPs with coal. Own coal production increased by 8 percent from the beginning of the year. We’ve maximally increased purchase of state coal. We buy additional volumes of coal in Poland. Another 50,000 tonnes will be delivered to our thermal power plants in January, 50,000 tonnes more in February,” DTEK Energy Commercial Director Vitaliy Butenko said.
