Dubai authorities seize counterfeit goods worth $50,000

DUBAI: Over $50,000 worth of counterfeit goods, including iPhones and designer sunglasses, were seized by officials in Dubai.

Dubai Economic Department (DED) officers carried out a series of raids warehouses in the Al Qusais and International City and discovered 3.5 million items in one of the largest seizures of its kind.

Mohammed Ali Rashed Lootah, executive director of the Commercial Compliance and Consumer Protection (CCCP) section, said they were changing their targets from the smaller vendors to the importers of the fake goods.

“Now we are starting to concentrate on wholesellers and importers. If we go up the supply chain and concentrate on the source… it will have a bigger effect in the long run,” Lootah said in comments published by 7Days.

A total of 61,768 phones, including the Apple iPhones and Samsung Galaxy models, were seized in International City, while over 2.6 million pairs of were seized from two warehouses in Al Qusais.
