Dubai Chamber workshop focuses on legal aspects of managing businesses

DUBAI: The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry in association with Bird & Bird (MEA) LLP organised Key Legal Aspects of Managing Businesses workshop focusing on the importance of building knowledge of legal aspects of doing business and managing of intellectual property (IP).

The workshop, attended by Dubai Chamber members, lawyers and legal consultants, contract specialists, investors, entrepreneurs, brand managers and IP specialists, focused on doing business in the UAE and provided an overview of the challenges and opportunities associated with corporate structures in the UAE as well as the means to identify the best structure and how to use the legal framework for your business. It also dealt with understanding the importance of managing and protecting IP, with tips on its registration including unregistrable trademarks, audit, tangible and intangible brand value and challenges of UAE IP law.

Jehad Kazim, Director, Legal Services Department, Dubai Chamber, saidthat the workshop came in line with the Chamber’s efforts to raise awareness of the business community on the importance of managing businesses and intellectual property and maintaining of a successful trademark strategy. The failure to understand the essential elements of the legal framework and trademarks can mean devaluation or loss of investment, valuable intellectual property and even business.

Kazim added that the Chamber is committed to supporting the development of business in Dubai and will regularly organises trainings, seminars and workshops to ultimately serve the business community in boosting their trade and contributing to the economic growth of Dubai.

“Our cooperation with Dubai Chamber in organising the workshop on professionally managing businesses and intellectual property turned out to be very successful as the participants got to understand the corporate structures in the UAE including LLCs, JVCs and commercial agencies, their attractiveness, challenges and solutions as well as important information on managing and protecting intellectual property and brand which play a vital role for success in business in a competitive market like Dubai,” said Saladin Aljurf, Counsel, Bird & Bird (MEA) LLP said.
