Dubai Customs seizes 5kg smuggled cocaine, sends Turk to jail for 10 years

DUBAI: Dubai customs seized 5 kilogram of smuggled cocaine, and arrested a 29 years old Turk, who was coming from Brazil and was on visit visa in Dubai. Customs ordered DH50,000 fine and 10 years jail and deportation after completing of his sentence.

“We learnt that the defendant possessed and used drugs. After verifying the news, we got a search and arrest warrant from the Public Prosecution,” said a lieutenant at the anti-narcotics department of the Dubai Police.

The police raided the hotel room in Al Qusais where A.F. was staying and arrested him.

“A.F. admitted that he possessed a quantity of drugs in a safe inside his closet. We found four packets containing a substance suspected to be cocaine”.

A.F. told the police officer that he brought the drugs from Brazil and managed to smuggle the substance through the Dubai International Airport by wrapping it in packets around his legs.

“He was waiting for instructions on how to deliver the quantity to someone in the UAE. He was to be paid in dollars,” the lieutenant told the prosecutor.
