DUBAI: For the sixth consecutive year, Dubai Customs has been awarded the IDEAS UK Platinum Category for its efficient suggestions system, scoring 100% for the third year in a row.

The award-winning suggestion scheme is in line with Dubai Customs’ efforts to spur a culture of innovation and creativity within the organisation, following on the footsteps of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who recently crowned the innovation drive in the country with the MBR Smart Majlis.

Dubai Customs has announced that its Suggestion and Reward Scheme (SRS) has received almost 17 thousand ideas and innovations from employees steered towards developing Customs work since the system was first introduced until the end of the first half of 2015. A total of 1233 suggestions were actually implemented and are now adding value to DC’s work processes.

The Chairman of DP World and Chairman of Ports, Customs & Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), H.E. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem said: “At the PCFC, we pay utmost attention to keeping pace with the efforts exerted by UAE leaders so as to encourage everyone to step forward and voice their ideas. We are relentless in our endeavours to upgrade our SRS, aiming for optimal outcomes. The launch of the Mohammed bin Rashid Smart Majlis shows our prudent leaders’ interest in involving everyone at the nationwide drive towards innovation and turning Dubai into the smartest city in the world by building on their ideas.”

H.E. Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs, underscored their commitment to continuously upgrade the SRS at Dubai Customs, with an ultimate goal of creating a work environment conducive to fresh, innovative ideas. “Turning ideas into opportunities is now at the heart of our processes. Many feasible and viable ideas have contributed to boosting Customs work, namely Mirsal2, Risk Engine, Advanced Container Scanning System, Al Kashif, and Smart Baggage Inspection System,” added Musabih.

Ahmed Abdul Salam Kazim, Director of Strategy and Corporate Excellence at Dubai Customs, said: “At an early stage, we created a coordination amongst all divisions within Dubai Customs to oversee and follow up on submitted ideas and ensure concerned departments review ideas and implement those which are feasible and doable.”

The in-house developed SRS has reaped 52 elite international and national awards in the sector of innovation and ideas since 2010 till mid-2015.
