DUBAI: The Dubai Customs has inaugurated “Dubai Customs Knowledge Club” with 2,400 books of different topics including human development, economy, positivity and happiness. The move follows the vision and directives of the UAE government in encouraging reading at all government departments, said the Director of Dubai Customs, Ahmed Mahboob Musabih.
The DC has become one of other Dubai government departments to open huge libraries. Others include the Dubai Police, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA), the Roads and Transport Authority among others. Flanked by a number of senior DC officials, Ahmed said the club “will be an interactive platform where employees meet and exchange ideas, plus numerous events that will take place in the club to encourage reading.”
The DC boss toured the new Knowledge Club and recommended books in customs, trade and economy be used in the club through coordination with relevant bodies such as the World Customs Organization and the Ministry of Economy. On her part, the Acting Director of Dubai Customs’ Training Centre, Dr Shaikha Al Ghafiri, said that the club will enable Dubai Customs’ staff access different knowledge resources easily. “This will help spread a reading culture amongst our staff and will eventually boost performance,” she said. Al Ghafiri pointed out that Dubai Customs Knowledge Club will turn into a digital platform by the end of 2017, and the name will change into “Dubai Customs Smart Knowledge Club.” Employees, then, will use a certain application to access books.
