DUBAI: Jebel Ali Customs Centers Management has recently arranged a field tour for trainees of an Emirates Intellectual Property Association (EIPA) workshop, organized end of February in cooperation with Underwriters Laboratories.
Yousuf Al Hashemi, Director of Jebel Ali Customs Centers Management, and Mohammed Abdullah bin Nasser, Manager of Procedure and Follow Up Section at the IPR Department- Dubai Customs, accompanied the trainees.
They toured the customs inspection facility and the Advanced Container Scanning System in Jebel Ali. Al Hashemi briefed the visitors on the examination and inspection processes and the operation of the Advanced Container Scanning System, which is capable of scanning 150 trucks per hour. “When the system detects contents suspected to be counterfeits in the consignment, it refers the consignment to inspection, in coordination with an IP Liaison Officer to verify the status of the suspected goods,” he said.
“Dubai Customs is keen on constantly upgrading its systems to expedite customs clearance of consignments, with compromise on the safety and security of the community,” the Director of Jebel Ali Customs Centers Management said.
In this context, Dubai Customs developed Mirsal 2 system, which stands as a quantum leap in customs work today because of the huge potential and new technologies it utilises, and the Risk Engine, which identifies and assesses potential risks in commercial consignments prior to arrival. It allows electronic assessment and clearance of about 84% of non-risky transactions around the clock in less than 2 minutes without any human intervention.
“The IPR Department collaborates with Jebel Ali Customs Centres Management and other customs centres in Dubai to ensure optimal protection of trademark owners’ intellectual property rights and safeguarding of the community against counterfeits,” commented Mohammed Abdullah bin Nasser.
The trainees praised DC’s IPR protection measures and the high-end customs services provided at the Jebel Ali facility.
