DUBAI: The United Arab Emirates has become one of the most alluring destinations in the world, thanks to its five-star hotels, luxurious amenities and unique attractions. With an influx of people planning travel to Dubai, many other spots throughout the city are attempting to cater to these tourists by making all official processes easy and painless. That is certainly true of Dubai airports, which are eliminating traditional immigration and Customs officers in favour of speedy technology.
A new smart passenger system will use multiple cameras and scanners to verify a traveller’s fingerprints and eyes, comparing them to the information that has been previously stored.
"The new smart system, under study and development, will help process arrival and departure procedures in no time and with no need for any immigration counter or officer at the airport," the prime minister of the UAE, Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, told the media.
"[They] just pass through a gate without presenting any passport or document, yet on the condition that he or she has already been registered in the system."
Travellers will be able to register to use the Smart Gates for free. The devices are expected to be installed in all Dubai airports within the next 12 to 18 months.
