Dubai Police arrest 2 in heroin smuggling case

DUBAI: The Anti- Narcotic Department arrested a man and a woman from different nationalities who attempted to smuggle a large amount of heroin.

Colonel Eid Mohammed Thani Hareb, Director of the Anti- Narcotic Department in Dubai Police said the first defendant AJH (33year-old) who was of African nationality and worked in a company was arrested in a park in Dubai.

The second defendant SH KH M, (39 year-old) Asian visitor, was stopped by the members of the ambush during an attempt to escape from the scene after she saw her partner being arrested by the police.

Colonel Eid pointed out that after arresting the suspects, they found out that the second accused was carrying a bag in her hand which was to be delivered to the second accused.

When the bag was opened, it turned out that it contained a large amount of women’s accessories, bracelets, necklaces and coloured beads weighing almost seven kg.

After inspecting the necklaces beads, each was found to be covered with a plastic transparent veneer, with quantity of heroin underneath.

Both the accused were referred to the competent authorities for legal procedures.

The first accused was charged with possessing psychotropic substances for trafficking purposes, while the second accused was charged with drugs smuggling for trafficking purposes.
