ISLAMABAD: All the provinces, excluding Punjab, have decided to approach Supreme Court against the Centre for not implementing the Petroleum Policy 2012 and not giving them their due share under the policy.

Sources said that the provinces, including Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, are consulting their legal teams to move the apex court against the federal government.

According to the Petroleum Policy 2012, Annexure 3 every exploration and production company, working in the upstream petroleum sector, is required to deposit $25,000 annually, per licence with Directorate General Petroleum Concessions (DGPC), which will be distributed equally among the federal and provincial governments.

Annexure 3 of the Petroleum Policy 2012 says that the amount deposited by the E&P companies “shall not form part of the government revenue and shall be used primarily for capacity building and to meet expenditure connected with infrastructure development”. “Training shall be provided for capacity building of Pakistani employees and GOP and provincial government concerned officials by foreign and local E&P companies including internships, scholarships and training of the local inhabitants in different institutions,” the policy 2012 stated.
