AMSTERDAM: Swiss multinational Nestlé is investing €80m in a Dutch production site for specialist baby food, the Financieele Dagblad says here the other day.
Dutch group head Marc-Aurel Boersch told the paper in an interview that the plant, which will be based in Nunspeet, will specialise in formula for babies who are allergic to cows’ milk. ‘This requires extremely specialist knowledge which is why we have opted for the Netherlands,’ Boersch told the paper. The factory is expected to be operational in 2017.
Research group Nielsen estimates the global baby food market to be worth some €30m, with China as an important growth market. The Netherlands has a strong dairy industry and Dutch dairy cooperative FrieslandCampina has already announced plans to invest more in baby food, the FD says. Danone said at the end of last year it is putting €240m into a new plant in Cuijk.
