BERLIN: Four men have appeared in court accused of trying to smuggle $60 million worth of drugs into Britain in an ambulance.
The Dutch gang was held by narcotics officers after packets of cocaine, heroin, amphetamines and ecstasy were found concealed in secret compartments in the customized vehicle.
The ambulance — equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment inside — was followed by officers from Holland to the West Midlands in England.
Detectives from the National Crime Agency watched the gang closely, before busting the suspected smuggling gang in June.
Olof Schoon, 38, Leonardus Bijlsma, 55, Dennis Vogelaar, 28, and Richard Engelsbel, 51, were later charged with drug offenses.
