In a Facebook post on Friday, Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) revealed that 165 cartons and 1,575 bottles of duty-unpaid beers were discovered at Pasir Panjang Scanning Station earlier on Tuesday last week (18 June).

ICA noted that beers were declared as “fresh cabbages and potatoes”.

ICA said that its officers had detected anomalies in the scanned images of the 40-footer refrigerated container when it was presented for clearance at the station.

An unstuffing operation was conducted by ICA officers thereafter at an industrial building along Enterprise Road where the duty-unpaid beers were uncovered, noted the authority.

The case was then handed over to Singapore Customs for further investigation.

ICA stated that safeguarding Singapore’s borders remains ICA’s top priority.

“ICA will continue to conduct security checks on passengers, cargos and vehicles at the checkpoints to prevent attempts to smuggle undesirable persons, drugs, weapons, explosives and other contrabands across our borders,” it added.
