CANADA: One of the Earth’s most important characteristic which makes it suitable for life is its optimum distance from the sun. As it follows its orbit, our planet is just enough for harnessing the high amounts of energy from our sun and also far enough to keep the temperature low enough for living creatures. According to a news report from thee Massachusetts Institute Institute of Technology, a new study finds that planets which are almost the same size of Earth follow similar circular orbital paths.
The study, published in the Astrophysical Journal, was written by researchers from MIT and Denmark’s Aarhus University. The study examined 74 exoplanets located hundreds of light-years away, and found that each orbited its solar system’s center in a circular pattern, not unlike the ones in our very own solar system.
Each of the exoplanets which were studied in the research were roughly the same size as planet Earth, unlike their larger planetary cousins which follow extremely elliptical paths which makes them too close to their host star, these smaller planets are at a more favorable distance from their sun throughout their orbits.
