GILGIT BALTISTAN: Collector Customs Collectorate Gilgit Baltistan Feroz Alam Junejo has said WeBOC system will start functioning at Sost dry port while EDI (Exchange of Data Information) with China will be inaugurated next year 2019.
Taking with Customs Today, Junejo said that currently when CPEC is on its starting point, their is no other option to run Sost dry port without WeBOC, adding that Customs department will run WeBOC this year while Exchange of Data Information (EDI) will start functioning during next year.
Junejo said that GB Customs offered importers of the region to provide them facilitation during Eid season but they were reluctant to adopt WeBOC to clear their consignments.
The collector GB said that Sost border remains opened for almost five months (April to August) but during rest of the months the importers of GB do their imports through different other ports using WeBOC system so it is not true that the importers of GB are not familiar with WeBOC.
Junejo said that if importers worked during month of Ramazan it would be better for the national exchequer but he is optimistic that importers of GB will run their businesses after Eid holidays.
He said that now all the infrastructure like internet, training facility to learn WeBOC including other law enforcement agencies and NLC is online so all the problems have been solved which were highlighted by importers.
On other hand, sources told CT that importers sit-in is still continued since last 15 days in front of Sost dry port and they have blocked the road which is creating hurdles to run Customs related functions.
