KARACHI: The historic and cultural heritage – Eduljee Dinshaw Road – outside the Custom House has been completely blocked for traffic and even for the passers-by causing serious difficulties for the customs officials, clearing agents and those living in the surrounding areas, it is observed.

The project aimed at renovating the Eduljee Dinshaw Road was launched with the efforts of Collector MCC-Preventive Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda and it would complete by the end of year 2015. After the renovation, the road would be closed for traffic and the people would come at evening to spend their leisure time and recall their memories for old times, as plants, park-lanes and other recreational items would be installed at the corners of the road for entertainment of the visitors.

The partial road was operational for customs officials, passerby and those living around it however the laborers working there Friday completely closed it. Now, it is daunting task for even a common man to reach the Custom House as he/she has to climb and cross heavy and large cemented barricades.

“The monuments like Karachi Port Trust (KPT) Building and Imperial Custom House Building are the tourists’ attraction”, Collector MCC-Preventive S M Tariq Huda had stated at launch of the project.

The renovation work for in full swing however it was halted as the scorching heat wave took lives of more than 1100 innocent people in the city. “The people are eagerly waiting for the completion of the project at the earliest so that we could enjoy the old memories of the city”, an importer Waleed told Customs Today.

The road has been blocked which is causing problems for people as it was very difficult to cross their blockades. The laborers should have left some space for the people to cross and reach the Custom House, he added.
