KARACHI: Renovation work on Eduljee Dinshaw Road project is near completion and it is expected it would be inaugurated within the next few days.
The project aims to restore the grandeur of the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and Imperial Customs House buildings and give a facelift to the area spanning to half a kilometer.
Talking to Customs Today, Additional Collector Customs Model Customs Collectorate Preventive Khalid Hussain Jamali said after the completion of this project thousands of visitors to the Customs House would be benefited. This would provide soothing access to them.
This was the beauty of the road that all service cables being provided by civic utilities like Karachi Electric, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, National Transmission Company and others are underground in a running trench. This would provide longer life to the road as there will be no need to dig out the road for repair works by these departments.
Jamali said besides this would add beauty to the historical place as thousands of visitor including foreigner visit the site.
The 24 inches old rainwater service has been repaired in order to avoid any huddle in the smooth flow of sewage. However, a new 18-inch diameter line has also been built running from Old Customs House to Charya Chowk.
New sewerage system has also been built with nearly 52 manholes and now sewerage line is around 1,000 feet long.
He said the project and giving fanciful look to this area was the brain child of Collector Syed Tariq Huda, who worked and got involved his people for the completion of this project.
“This project is a gift to the people of Karachi from Huda in particular and from Customs House in general.
Plantation is also an added factor as twenty-nine tree rings besides fifteen flower beds and 10 planter benches have also been set up.
