Electricity load-shedding to end by 2017: Abid

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Water and Power Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali said on Monday electricity load-shedding would end in the country by 2017.

He was speaking at the signing ceremony of Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) of Thar Coal here. Secretary Water and Power and CEO Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company signed the agreement.

The minister said that during the current summer season, electricity load-shedding would be less than the previous year.

The government was focusing on optimum development of renewable sources of energy, particularly hydel, coal, wind, solar and biomass, he added.

The minister said that the Thar Coal project would be completed by the end of 2017.

He said that this was historical initiative that Sindh and federal governments jointly started the Thar Coal project.

He said that transmission line and grid stations would be further improved to control the line losses. There was also improvement in the recovery process, he added.
