On Monday, the Ehtesab Commission arrested the four persons on charges of misappropriation of funds in purchase of sewing machines and tricycles.

For further investigation in the case filed against them, the senior prosecutor Lajbar Khan and deputy director investigation Saleh Muhammad sought physical remand of the accused persons.

The officials claimed that the accused were members of a purchase committee which had ordered purchase of sewing machines and tricycles to the tune of Rs 15 million from Niaz Enterprises through vague advertisement in 2009-10.

They alleged that the officials of the social welfare department had awarded contracts to their blue-eyed contractors without fulfilling formalities and cause loss of Rs 20 million to national exchequer. Besides, they alleged the accused had distributed those items on political basis.
