Encroachments are one of major hurdles in beautification of Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: Encroachment is one of the major hurdle in reviving the heritage and beautification of Rawalpindi. The main markets of the city are facing massive encroachments causing hurdles not only for the customers but also affecting the business activities in the city.  Traders and commuters are both facing difficulties during routine shopping and it went doubled on festive shopping. The city administration, TMA and Traffic department had to play their due role here and we (traders) are ready to support their anti-encroachment drives. There must be a complete ban on selling goods on carts in Sadar bazaar.

These remarks were made by Malik Shahid Saleem president Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) during his meeting with Cantonment Executive Officer Sibtein Raza in his office.  He was accompanied by former President Asad Mashadi and Former Senior Vice President Saqib Rafiq.

Executive Officer Sibtein Raza informed that efforts are being made to create better parking space for customers and we have identified few locations for parking plaza in Sadar. To address parking issue RCB staff has been seizing cart vendors on regular basis, he added. He assured full cooperation and assistance of his office in RCCI’s Glorious Rawalpindi project aiming to promoting clean environment, beautification of crossroads, pavements, better designing of Parks and revival of City Heritage.

Asad Mashadi, who is also chairman of the Glorious Rawalpindi project, provided a detail briefing on the project and informed that RCCI being member of the Chief Minister task-force on Glorious Rawalpindi is taking all stakeholders on board. RCCI had already signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Rawalpindi.

He said that the beautification, renovation, and patch work of Rashid Minhas road has been started. The buildings along side of the road will be painted and we are also holding meetings with shop owners to bring awareness with respect to the cleanliness, uniform placement of Advertisement boards and parking.
