Ending delays: PAF proposes separate customs zone for in import, export shipments

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Apparel Forum (PAF) has suggested the establishment of a separate customs examination zone for export and import consignments to do away with delay in the process.

Talking to customs officials at a meeting, Pakistan Apparel Forum (PAF) chairman Javed Bilwani said that the proposed customs examination zone would result in quick processing of shipments besides minimise the incidents of cargo damage during examination.

He stressed the the need for overcoming unwanted damage to export goods which, he said, ultimately led to rejection and non-payment by foreign buyers.

Members from other textile associations also attended the meeting.

The customs officials including Chief Collector Customs (Enforcement), South, Muhammad Nazim Salim; Collector of Customs (Exports), Karachi, Manzoor Hussain Memon and Collector Customs (Exports), Port Qasim, Agha Shahid Majeed Khan attended the meeting.

Mr Bilwani asserted that separate Customs zone would help make the examination process of goods easier at the private terminals of Karachi port, including PICT and KICT.
