Energy efficiency measures: Over 100 SMEs save Rs155m per annum

LAHORE: Over 100 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad and Sialkot that implemented the energy efficiency measures and saved over Rs155 million per annum.

The participating companies recovered their investment on efficiency measures in only four months. This was revealed by Salman Butt, Punjab coordinator for international development project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by bfz GmbH came to an end after eight years of successful implementation.

“It went beyond Energy Audits and included support in implementation and impact monitoring. Capacity Building through Trainings and Study tours to Germany and Brazil for Association Members, as well as industry representatives, enabled the employees and managers to recognize the energy saving potential and take the lead in further energy efficiency improvements,” he confirmed.

He said the project has shown that also small and medium sized companies can reduce their energy costs significantly with low investment. We have noticed an increased awareness and a change in mind-set by a lot of factories during the last eight years that we have worked in Pakistan. He hoped that this success story will continue.

“The principal project objective was to support Pakistani industry to work economically more efficiently and ecologically more sustainable, by directly supporting Business Associations in that field”, explained Susanne Ditter, international coordinator. “Thanksto the excellent support of our national partners, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA),partnering Business Associations, as well as our consultants, we have achieved this objective.”
