Enquiry into 17 ISAF containers’ case in full swing

Explosive experts’ help sought for examinations of hazardous material

KARACHI: Investigation into the 17 ISAF containers seized by the Customs Intelligence Karachi is in full swing while important disclosures are expected in the case.

According to the sources, the Division-IV of the Directorate of Intelligence& Investigation which deals with the export departments and has detected a number mega tax fraud cases, is busy in conducting enquiries as this case reportedly has taken an importance as three countries i.e. Afghanistan, Pakistan and Germany have shown their concern and extended their support in the case with a view to nabbing the entire chain.

It may be mentioned here that these 17 containers which were last week seized by the Customs I&I Karachi had come from Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan to Karachi and were to be re-exported to Germany.

The Customs Intelligence Director General Lutfullah Virk who has forwarded the information to the Customs I&I Karachi on which this mega seizure was made, has shown his keen interest in the case and have not only appreciated the raiding team but also have directed them to resolve the case at their earliest.

The Exports Collectorate has reportedly contacted the experts from the Explosive Department for the examination of the 9 containers which are filled with hazardous material.

These containers would be examined by the explosive experts in the next couple of days after which the real situation could be analyzed.

Moreover, an FIR has been registered before the Special Judge Customs against a person who was arrested during the raid.
