Essential commodities’ prices rise from Sept to Jan 2020

LAHORE: Prices of essential commodities have skyrocketed, bringing massive financial pressure on the common man.

According to media investigation report, significant hike in the prices of pulses, wheat flour, chicken, ghee, sugar, vegetables, LPG, garlic, tomatoes, onion, potatoes, mutton, tea and other items of daily use was observed in the period from Sept. 2018 till Jan. 2020.

The price of garlic has been raised by 145pc, tomatoes 85pc, onion 69pc and potatoes 53pc. Likewise, dal mong’s price has increased by 107pc, dal mash by 62pc, dal masoor by 31pc and dal chana by 37pc.

Wheat flour’s price has increased by 24pc, sugar 36pc, mutton 14pc, chicken 51pc, ghee 21pc and LPG 12pc. In Sept. 2018, dal mong’s cost was Rs112 per kg and now its price is Rs232 per kg.

The average price of dal masoor was Rs112 per kg in the country at that time, which is now Rs147 per kg, 31pc more expensive.

Dal chana has increased by 37pc from Rs118 in Sept. 2018 to Rs162 per kg, whereas dal mash has risen from Rs140 per kg to Rs227 per kg.

Garlic’s price has risen by 145pc from Rs121 to Rs297 per kg, onion from Rs36 to Rs61 per kg, potatoes from Rs30 to Rs46 per kg, tomatoes from Rs59 to Rs109 per kg.

Importantly, price of wheat flour bag of 20kg has increased from Rs777 to Rs968.
