EU clears 374,000 tonnes soft wheat export licences this week

PARIS: The European Union granted export licences for 374,000 tonnes of soft wheat this week, taking the total since the beginning of the 2015/16 season last July to 29.2 million tonnes, official data showedhere the other day.

This was 3 percent below the volume of soft wheat licences cleared by the same point last season.

The EU also awarded this week licences to export 55,000 tonnes of barley, bringing the total this season to 9.2 million tonnes, up 7 percent on the same stage last season.

For maize, it cleared licences to export 84,000 tonnes, bringing the total this season to 1.7 million tonnes, down 49 percent compared with the year-earlier level.

In imports, the EU granted licences for 312,000 tonnes of maize, taking the cumulative volume to 12.8 million, up 46 percent from a year earlier.
