CARACAS: The European Union (EU) voiced concern over the border crisis between Venezuela and Colombia, following Caracas’ decision of closing the main border crossing and deporting more than 1,000 Colombians.
“The EU is concerned over the situation and reports of violence on the border between Venezuela and Colombia,” a spokesperson of the European External Action Service remarked.
“We hope the two countries can cooperate effectively to tackle the current challenge in the bordering region,” the spokesperson added.
The conflict started on August 19, when President Nicolás Maduro ordered to shut down part of the border with Colombia after an attack by alleged smugglers against three Venezuelan military officers and a civilian.
