BRUSSELS: The seasonally adjusted volume of retail trade in the eurozone remained stable month-on-month in April and rose by 0.5 percent in the wider European Union (EU), according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the EU.
In March, the retail trade volume fell by 0.6 percent in both zones.
On a yearly basis, the adjusted retail sales index increased by 1.4 percent in the 19-member eurozone and by 2.4 percent in the 28-member EU.
The monthly stable volume of retail trade is due to a rise of 0.5 percent for “food, drinks and tobacco,” while non-food products remained stable, and automotive fuel decreased by 0.1 percent.
Among EU member states, the highest monthly increases in total retail trade were registered in Denmark at 4.5 percent, while decreases were observed in Finland, Germany, and Malta at minus 1.2 percent, minus 0.9 percent and minus 0.1 percent, respectively.
