NEW DELHI: The CBI on Wednesday filed a charge sheet against Atul Dixit, then commissioner of customs at Inland Container Depot (ICD), in a case of favoring a private exporter in the release of duty drawback. Dixit, the CBI said, caused a loss of Rs 74.50 crore to the government.

CBI spokesperson Devpreet Singh said a case was registered against Dixit and others under charges of cheating and criminal conspiracy for favouring private companies in the release of duty drawback from ICD, Tughlakabad, Delhi and ICD, Patparganj, Delhi.

“It was further alleged that in order to favour the private person, the said public servants deliberately did not suspend the duty drawback of the firms immediately and ensured that the amounts claimed by the firms as duty drawback were transferred to their bank accounts,” Singh said.

The official said the act of the said public servants allegedly resulted in revenue loss to the government and corresponding gain to the private parties.

“After thorough investigation, CBI filed a charge sheet. The accused persons moved bail applications before the designated court in Delhi. After several hearings on the bail applications, the special judge, CBI cases, Delhi rejected the bail applications on October 6. All the accused persons in the case are presently in judicial custody,” she said.
