Delay in examination, assessment of consignments continue as officials still on leave

KARACHI: The examination and assessment of the consignments at terminals are delayed as most of the staff is on leave due to Eid holidays.

According to details, the appraising officers and examiners of Customs Appraisement East, Customs Appraisement West and Customs Port Muhammad Bin Qasim are on leave due to Eidul Azha and will resume their duties on Monday.

The importers were of the view that they would have to pay extra demurrage and detention charges due to the delay in clearance of their consignments, adding that the cost of doing business has already increased.

Collector Appraisement West Dr Farid Iqbal Qureshi has directed additional collectors, deputy collectors and assistant collectors to ensure smooth flow of clearance despite shortage of the staff in examination and assessment groups.

Furthermore, the Chief Collector Appraisement South Abdul Rashid Shaikh has also asked the collectors of all three field formation Collectorates to utilize their available resources and man-power in order to facilitate the importers and ensure smooth flow of clearance of the consignments.

The Chief Collector-Appraisement South Abdul Rashid Shaikh further asked the Collectors of all three field formation Collectorates to distribute the work among the available strength of the Collectorate.
