MULTAN: The Mango Research Station (MRS) has predicted huge mango production in coming season due to suitable climate condition and other factors.
Talking to APP here Monday, MRS Incharge Abdul Ghaffar stated that plenty of flowering was noted at mango orchards in the region. He said favourable climate, lower levels of fog, less rains and growers understanding regarding management of mango orchards throughout the year, were main reasons behind “good flowering at trees” during the on-going stage.
Last year, production of white “Chaunsa” was affected due to anthracnose disease which had attacked the orchards at flowering stage. “Now there is no chance of disease attack this year. Also, some insects including Mango Harper and Mango Inflorescent Midge also damaged orchards and caused low production”.
About an estimate percentage increase in mango production this year, the Mango Research Station Incharge hoped that nearly 40 to 50 percent increase was expected in the upcoming season as compared to last year produce. Punjab province produced nearly fourteen thousands tonnes mangoes last year, he said.
Garewal also stressed upon farmers to take special care of orchards and keep in touch with experts for proper guideline. He suggested to offer feed required for sustaining flowering. He hoped that the country would export good quantity of mangoes this year and earn handsome foreign exchange.
