The Punjab Excise is issuing number plates containing security features. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday here at DG office Lahore, Director Headquarters Qadeer Bajwa said the Excise Department has started issuing new security featured number plates from November 20.

The government set new prices for number plates for facilitating citizens with subsidy on motor bike number plates as 80 percent of the registered auto mobiles are bikes. Rates are Motor Car/Jeep-Rs 1200, commercial vehicles-Rs 1200, motorcycle-Rs 400 and rickshaws -Rs 550. These number plates will be issued in all districts of Punjab at the time of registration. Vehicles which have not received number plates in last three years will also get new number plates.

Punjab excise and taxation department was getting these number plates from Germany since 2007 which was creating many issues for the public.  Now Excise department has started its own production plant in Lahore that can manufacture number plates just like the quality and security features of imported number plates. Now plant is manufacturing 20,000 number plates per day which can be increased as per requirement.

Director Excise and Taxation Imran Aslam said that number plates are now ready for all districts of Punjab.  “Delivery for these number plates is very confidential and by courier. TCS has established a special counter for this purpose in DG office Lahore and will deliver it in special boxes to other districts of Punjab,” he said

Director Audit Excise Suhail arshad, ETO Headquarters Azam and Director Motor Branch Imran Aslam were also present on the occasion. Delivery of security featured number plates was suspended from 2011 due to its late import and some corruption issues.
