Peshawar tragedy: Excise dept to launch campaign against unregistered vehicles, fake number plates

LAHORE: The Excise and Taxation Department has decided to take strict action against unregistered vehicles and those having fake number plates after Peshawar massacre.

According to Director Excise and Taxation Motor Branch Imran Aslam, the department has decided to take strict action against unregistered and those with fake number plates.  The Excise Dept has sought support from Punjab police in this regard. The Excise staff will perform duty with police at check points because Punjab has a large number of check points in the city and even in the whole province. The Excise staff will check the number plates and registration of the vehicles. The department took this decision after Peshawar incident in which a stolen vehicle was used with fake number.  This sad tragedy claimed 141 lives of the citizens including 132 school children.

The action against such vehicles will help eliminate terrorism from the country. The Excise police will have strict check on these vehicles that are on roads without registration.

There are thousands of vehicles in the country having no data record in motor branches. During last era of the democratic government, it was decided to take action against unregistered vehicles but it could not be completed till now. Use of stolen and unregistered vehicles in terror attacks has claimed thousands of lives in the country.
