Gujranwala division: Excise gives 5,700 defaulters two weeks to pay their professional tax

SIALKOT:  The Excise and Taxation Department has given a two -week final deadline to as many as 5,700 chronic defaulters in Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad of the Gujranwala division for the payment of their outstanding arrears of professional tax.

According to Excise and Taxation Department Gujranwala Director Rao Shakilur Rehman, after the end of this two-week deadline, the properties of these chronic defaulters will be sealed, and their arrest warrants will be issued.

A special recovery target of Rs 60 million professional tax has been set for the Excise and Taxation Department for the current fiscal year, out of which only Rs 30 million has yet been recovered.

He added that educationists, lawyers, industrialists, traders and other professionals were included in the above-mentioned 5,700 chronic defaulters.

He said that special teams were busy in recovering revenue, as the speed of recovery campaign had been increased. He said that all-out sincere efforts were being made to bring maximum professionals in the tax net.
