LAHORE: The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has seized 72 vehicles during a crackdown against token tax defaulters.
Sources told Customs Today that motor branch of the department has started a special crackdown against token tax defaulters and unregistered vehicles. On special directions of Excise Director General Akram Ashraf Gondal, the motor branch established checkpoints at Liberty, Defense Housing Society, Thokar Niaz Baig, Ravi Toll Plaza, Sagian Road and Sherakot areas. During the checking process, the motor branch seized 72 vehicles due to shortage of token tax. Many vehicles were later released after payment of taxes.
Excise and taxation officer Adeel Amjad and inspector Zakaullah were part of the team. Motor branch checked more than 300 vehicles and verified their documents through latest systems and online verification software of excise and found 72 defaulter vehicles that were seized until their owners pay their pending amount.
Earlier the motor branch of the excise and taxation department nabbed a vehicle which was owned by son of Chief Minister of Khyber Pukhtunkhawa.
