LONDON: NASA’s New Horizons images have showed some geological activity that recently took place over the surface of the planet. The images have provided strong evidences of exotic ice flows over the surface of the dwarf planet.
Some gray and white surfaces on the planet show the evidence of geologic activities. Some of the photos even reveal the Sputnik PLanum, the heart-shaped region of the planet.
“My jaw was on the ground when I saw this first image of an alien atmosphere in the Kuiper Belt. It reminds us that exploration brings us more than just incredible discoveries – it brings incredible beauty”, said New Horizons Principal Investigator Alan Stern in a statement.
According to mission co-investigator John Spencer, this kind of layer has also previously been seen in the active world such as Earth and Mars. Entire portrait of the dwarf planet could be seen through the various images released by NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft.
The hazes in the surface of the planet are also visible in one of the images. The hazes are almost 130km above from the surface. Researchers figured out after doing initial analysis that there are two sorts of haze layers present on the surface. One of them is nearly 80km above the surface and the other is 50 kilometers above it.
